Why is Step One School considered a non-profit organization?
Non-profit organizations exist solely to provide programming, services and opportunities for the benefit of their community. The mission of Step One School is to provide quality education to children ages two to six in the East Bay. As a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, Step One relies on tuition payments, outside grants and charitable giving from individuals to operate and execute its mission. Unlike ‘for-profit’ corporations, any funds available above and beyond the budget are allocated to school operations for the following year.
What if I can only make a small contribution?
We are aware that each family’s ability to give is different. Each year we receive a wide range of gifts, from $5 - $5,000+. In order to ensure we reach our goal, we approach a variety of supporters: board members, alumni families, business friends and grandparents. In addition, the same granting agencies that look at Financial Aid programming also look to see whether our families have shown their commitment to the community through Annual Campaign participation. Each and every gift makes a difference.
What if I am not interested in giving to Financial Aid? Are there other programs I can support?
Like many non-profit organizations there are many things going on at Step One School! We are fortunate enough that each year we are able to continually prioritize our Financial Aid program and many families rally in support of that effort. However, we have so many other programs and projects that need funding support. We would love to find one that speaks to you! Contact marisa@steponeschool.org to get connected with one of our many programs – site improvements, teacher retirement, outdoor kitchens and gardens and more!
