Step One School adheres to a play based, developmental philosophy.  The school provides structure and routine throughout the day, with room for children to make choices within the activities offered to them.

The rich school environment provides a natural rhythm to the day, with children going out and exploring and then coming together in large and small groups to make sense of their experiences.

Inclusion and diversity are a large part of the curriculum at Step One.  We believe that early childhood is an ideal time for children to experience diversity since they are defining themselves based on how they see others, and they can experience diversity before the awareness of exclusion and power becomes dominant.
